Concert held at Atemporánea I – Festival Internacional de Música Contemporánea del CSMCBA Astor Piazzolla, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2019.
Performer: Daniel Alfaro
Composed in May 2018 and revisited in April/May 2019, br[asas] No. 3 explores timbres and idiomatic rhythmic combinations from the language of the Brazilian pandeiro, placing it in the role of a solo instrument. To achieve this, research was carried out in collaboration with the performer, focusing on notation and performance techniques, making it possible to integrate these elements throughout the musical discourse.
From a compositional standpoint, I then developed an alternation of previously selected rhythmic cells across the five sections into which the piece is divided, aiming to create a work in which traditional elements of the Brazilian pandeiro idiom can be heard while simultaneously situating the instrument within the context of contemporary concert music.
The work was premiered during the I Atemporánea Festival de Música Contemporánea in Buenos Aires in 2019.
